Series Tied 1-1

Series Tied 1-1

Evan McFeeters

The Generals travelled up to Didsbury for game 2 of the Central Division Semi Final series versus Mountainview looking to take a commanding lead. Things started out as good as you could ask for for the Generals as they scored only 15 seconds into the game. Cochrane continued to put the pressure on the Colts and eventually found the back of the net again to increase the score to 2-0 only 5 minutes into the game. The 2-0 lead wouldnt last long. Cochrane took their foot off the gas and Mountainview took full advantage, scoring 3 straight goals to take the lead. The Generals managed to tie the score before the end of the period. The 2nd period was tight checking, both teams knew that if they made the next mistake it could end up in the back of their net. Each team added a goal in the second period which would set up for an intense 3rd. The Generals seemed to lose their focus part way through the 3rd period. Players were pushing so hard to get their team the go-ahead goal that they forgot to play defensive hockey when they didnt have full control of the puck. That led to the Generals giving up too many odd man rushes and taking too many penalties. With the game looking to be headed into overtime the lack of focus came back to bite the Generals big time as the Colts scored with just 14 seconds remaining to win the game and tie the series. It wasnt for a lack of effort on the Generals part as everyone in the lineup battled until the last whistle. The team lost the game but will not lose the lesson. The two squads are back in action in Cochrane on Saturday night for game 3.
