Generals Show Their Character

Generals Show Their Character

Evan McFeeters

After starting the season going an amazing 14-0 the Generals slipped up last week, only picking up 1 out of a possible 4 points. But the team refused press the panic button and they went back to work this past weekend. With two home games on the schedule they re-focused and played very well. On Friday night the pesky Banff Bears came to town and the Generals came out guns a blazin, jumping out to a huge 7-2 lead after forty minutes. But the third period is when the fireworks went off. After Cochrane added 3 more goals and put the game way out of reach the Bears grinded 3 goals of their own and started to play a little on the chippy side The Generals showed that they are a pack of wolves and they stood up for eachother after every hit, slash and crosscheck. The end result was a 10-5 win but they lost 3 players for Saturday nights big game vs. Blackfalds due to suspensions for fighting in the last minute.

To say the Generals had a short bench to play the North Division powerhouse Wranglers was an understatment. Due to the suspensions from the previous night and a couple nagging injuries the team only had 13 players dressed. The team knew they had to dig deep and they did just that. Leaning on the solid goaltending of Kenny Quinn the Generals proved they are a deep team that works hard for every inch on the ice. Cochrane outlasted Blackfalds and came out victorious, 8-6. The Generals opened up a big 6-2 lead after two periods but the tank was nearly empty for the third. The Wranglers battled back and cut the lead to 1 goal but thats as close as they would get.

Veteran captains Danny McSween and Jonny Pictin led the charge all weekend by scoring 11 and 9 points respectively.  Kenny Quinn was again solid in both games stopping a combined 53 shots. Cochrane hits the road this week and is taking the momentuem they build Friday and Saturday with them. They return home  Dec.17 vs the Stettler Lightning.
