Generals Storm Out Of The Gate To Take Game 1

Generals Storm Out Of The Gate To Take Game 1

Evan McFeeters

The Generals were fired up to begin their playoff quest against first round opponents the Moutainview Colts in front of a big home crowd. When the lights were turned on after an impressive pre-game ceremony the players on both teams were anxious and excited to get underway. It only took the Generals 73 seconds to open the scoring when Alex Colborne fed Mike Matlo a pass in the slot. Matlo waltzed on top of the Colts goalie and fired a shot in off the post to ignite his team and the fans. Late in the period, with a Mountainview player in the penalty box, Danny McSween extended the lead to 2 goals when he tapped home a pretty cross crease pass.

The second period started just like the first ended, with the Generals scoring a powerplay goal. Matlo returned the favor to Colborne and set him up beautifully to make the score 3-0. Minutes later, Jay Matlo slapped the puck through the stunned Colts netminder to give the Gens a 4 goal advantage. Mountainview showed that they are a hard working team that never quits late in the second period and they added 2 goals of their own to cut the lead in half.

The Generals came out for the third period looking to put the Colts away early. Just a minute in McSween recieved a pass from Kris Keller, out-waited the goalie, and slid in his 2nd of the game. Cochrane kept rolling and sniper Jonny Pictin snapped a shot in off the post as he wheeled down his off wing. The Colts added one more goal but thats as close as they would get as the Generals added 3 more goals late to ice game 1. McSween capped off another great game with his 3rd goal, Wes Kashuba and Kashtin Gordon added goals of their own by blasting slapshots past the goalie. Garret Fraser picked up the win between the pipes as Cochrane jumped out to an early 1-0 series lead. Game 2 goes tonight in Didsbury then the series returns to Cochrane on Saturday night. 730pm game time. Come out and jump on the Generals Playoff Bandwagon!
