Generals Continue To Roll Against Lightning

The Cochrane Generals headed north looking to stay undefeated to start the season. The Generals arrived in Stettler and put their foot on the gas right away. On the opening shift Jesse Adshead made a hard nosed play at his own blue line and chipped the puck passed the pinching defencmen. Adshead wheeled into the Lightning zone, 2 on 1 with linemate Kris Keller. Adshead feathered a pass to Keller who deflected the puck in to open the scoring only 20 seconds in. The Gens kept coming and Jason Labelle continued with his hot hand, potting the second goal of the game. Labelle took a Nick Borody pass behind the net and wrapped it in the open side. Danny McSween added another goal late in the period to make the score 3-0.

Stettler cut the score to 3-1 midway through the 2nd period. That didnt seem to faze the Cochrane squad as they kept throwing puck after puck at the Lightning goalie. The Stettler goaltender kept his team in the game throughout the second until McSween buried his 2nd of the night on the powerplay. The teams headed into the dressing rooms after 40 minutes with score 3-1 in favor of Cochrane.

The Gens were hungry to add to their slim lead in the 3rd. Darren Schmautz smacked home a rebound in front of the net to increase the score to 4-1. Then Jordan Davidson sent Jonny Pictin in all alone. Pictin's original shot was stopped but he shovelled in the loose rebound. Both teams added late goals to make the final 7-3. Kenny Quinn got his 4th consecutive win in goal. The Gens outshot the Lightning 53-29. The team is on the road to start next weekend in Three Hills then they travel back home to take on Medicine Hat on Saturday night.
