Generals Dominate Colts At Home

Generals Dominate Colts At Home

Evan McFeeters

The Generals invited the Mountianview Colts to town for their first meeting of the season. The Generals shook up their lineup a little and it paid off as soon as the puck dropped. The new combination of Mike Matlo and Jason Labelle struck early and often. On their first shift of the game Matlo took a centreing pass from Labelle and fired the puck through the goalie to open the scoring. Ten minutes later the same line went back to work as Matlo took another Labelle pass and put it to the back of the net. The line wasnt done there. Labelle got on the scoring side of things when Matlo returned the favor and set him up beautifully for a breakaway. Labelle showed his silky smooth hands and finished the play nicely on his forehand. The Generals dominated the 1st period and the two teams went into the dressing rooms with the score 3-0.

The Gens potent powerplay got a chance to start the 2nd period and Danny McSween banked in a shot from behind the goal line. The 4th goal of the game chased the Colts starting netminder. The goalie change didnt seem to change any of the momentum. The first shot Cochrane put on the Mountainview net went in. Nick Borody joined the 'Matlo/Labelle Show' after he finished a passing play between their line. The Colts finally got on the board on the powerplay. They capitalized when a hard point shot beat a screened Garrett Fraser who had no chance. The Gens replied shortly after when Jordan Davidson used his blazing speed and pulled the Dman wide. Davidson then dropped the puck to Tyson Soloski who went top corner. Matlo then added another for his hat trick with powerplay goal. The Colts cut the score to 7-2 with a fluke goal that hit a Cochrane defencemen hit front and deflected into the net. Borody added his 2nd on yet another powerplay and Kyle Tucker put home one of his own late in the period to cap off the offensive explosion.

With the score 9-2 in the 3rd period. Tempers started to boil over. Hard hitting forward Jesse Adshead lowered the boom and a Colts player took exception to the big hit. The two players traded punches until the linesmen broke up the scrap. Then feisty winger Landon Bergh decided enough was enough and dropped the gloves after taking several slashes to his ankles. The Colts managed one more goal past Garrett Fraser. Fraser was on his game once again turning away 27 of the 30 shots sent his way. The buzzer sounded and the scoreboard read 9-3. The Generals hit the road on Saturday to take on Northern Divison rivals Stettler Lightning. Cochrane looks to start the season 7-0 for the first time in team history! Next home game is Sat. November 6th vs Medicine Hat Cubs.
