The Cochrane Generals took their undefeated record to Medicine Hat to battle with the 2-4 Cubs. After a long bus ride the Gens started the game looking sluggish. The home town Cubs took advantage and opened the scoring 3 minutes in. It took the Generals until midway through the period to find their legs. Once they did the young squad put the pressure on the Cubs defence, forcing turnovers. Jonny Pictin tied the score on the powerplay after he took a nice cross ice pass from Jay Labelle. The Generals kept coming and a nice bounce from a Darren Schmautz shot landed on the tape of rookie sniper Kris Keller's stick. Keller made no mistake depositing his 5th on the season.
Cochrane kept up the pressure in the 2nd period. Veteran forward Jordan Davidson picked off a pass shorthanded and walked in all alone and fired home his second of the season only 12 seconds into the period. Then it was the captain's turn to find the back of the net. Danny McSween picked up a loose puck in the slot and buried his 4th of the year. Assists on the PP goal went to Pictin and Labelle. On another powerplay stud Dman, Maddison Smiley picked up the puck in the neutural zone. Smiley turned on the jets and as he crossed the blue line, the Cubs dman tripped on his own feet and Smiley was able to walk in and tuck the puck home on his back hand. The pretty goal was Smiley's first in the HJHL. The Cubs added a late goal to cut the score to 5-2 heading to the 3rd.
Cochrane got into penalty trouble to start the 3rd period. The Cubs took advantage and made the score 5-3. However the Cubs momentum was short lived as Kyle Tucker snuck down from his spot on the blue line and tapped home a McSween pass to regain the 3 goal lead. 5 minutes later Nick Borody iced the game with a shot labelled to the top corner. The Cubs added another late marker to make the score a little more respectable. The final buzzer sounded and the Gens kept their perfect record going with the 7-4 victory. Kenny Quinn was solid once again picking up his 3rd consecutive win between the pipes. The Generals powerplay was excellent going 4-6. Next game is against division rivals Mountainview Colts, Friday Oct 29th at 730pm. Come out and cheer on your Generals as they look to keep the streak alive!!
