The Generals’ best of seven series continued Friday night in Airdrie. The Gens down 1-0 needed a solid effort to avoid going down 2-0 early in this series. A sloppy first period filled with defensive zone errors allowed the Thunder to open up a 2-0 lead while outshooting Cochrane 13-7. The second period was just as bad as the first. An uninspired Gens team was playing as if this was a regular season game that meant nothing and not a second round playoff game and the Airdrie squad took advantage. They scored two more goals to extend the lead to 4-0. This if finally when the Generals got the hint that they can’t just coast their way to a victory. Danny Mcsween finally got the Generals on the board with 1:30 remaining in the second. Assists going to his line mates Johnny Pictin and Darren Schmautz. The Gens outshot the Thunder 11-8 in the second. The Cochrane boys pulled to within one when Mike Cann fired a shot past the Thunder netminder. The score was now 4-2 and the Gens had 9:36 remaining to pull even. A few solid chances came but in the end nothing amounted to a goal. The Thunder would add an empty netter and bring the final score to 5-2 Thunder. Final shots in the game: Generals 31, Thunder 31. PP: 0/4, PK: 3/5.
