The Generals finished the regular season in High River Monday night with mediocre performance which ended with a 9-7 loss to the Flyers. It was a game that meant very little as Cochrane was already a lock for the 3rd seed in their division. The Generals were guilty of watching the puck rather than pursuing it early in the game. This gave the Flyers the upper hand in the early going and led to a big 7-1 advantage for the home town team. After coach Dana Boothby called a time out in the second period to settle the team down the effort level improved and the team started to claw back. By the 2nd intermission the score was 7-4 and looking a bit more promising for the Gens. Cochrane gave an honorable effort in the 3rd period and were able to get the score to 8-7 with the goalie pulled and on the PP, but High River slammed the door shut with an empty-netter. The loss was certainly not from a lack of effort in the latter part of the game and if not for a stellar performance by High River’s goalie the comeback would have been successful. The loss was water of a duck’s back for the Gens as they were likely looking past this meaningless game to the Three Hills Thrashers, the team they will face on Wednesday to kick off the playoffs.
Points in the game came from Jonny Pictin (2 goals, 1 assist), Danny Mcsween (1 goal, 2 assists), Nick Borody (1 goal, 1 assist), Geoffroy Brechmann (2 assists), Mike Matlo (1 assist), Taylor Irvin (1 goal), Jordan Davidson (1 assist), Darren Schmautz (1 assist), and Kurt Briggs (1 goal). Goaltender Garret Fraser stopped 15 of 24 shots in the game.
