The Cochrane Generals are off the South Division final in the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs after defeating the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings Friday night by a score of four to two.
The Gens won the series three games to one.
It’s the Gens first trip to the South Division final since 2016.
The Kings came out fighting for their playoff lives in the first period, scoring the games first goal thanks to Evan Dean. It was Dean’s third of the playoffs.
The Gens fired back three minutes later with Emmet Long getting his first of the playoffs, assisted by captain Diago Coelho on the powerplay.
Cochrane took the lead 26 seconds into the second period with Tyler Auger’s first of the post season. The lead vanished with nine minutes left to go in the middle frame as the Kings scored shorthanded with Cody Mountjoy’s second of the playoffs.
Heading into the final period tied, the Gens took control and ultimately punched their ticket to the next round. Alexander Devnich scored the eventual game winner with Evan Sine adding the insurance marker with four minutes left to go.
The Gens got two assists from Coelho and Ty Barry. Evan Sine had a goal and a assist as well. Goaltender Isaias Maddigan stopped 25 of 27 shots for the win.
The Gens now await the winner of the Medicine Hat Cubs and Okotoks Bisons. The Cubs are currently up two games to one with a six to three win on Friday night.
