The Cochrane Generals head into the weekend back on even footing after blanking the Wheatland Kings 3-0 on the road in Strathmore on Oct. 17.

Goalie Isaias Maddigan slammed the door with a 27-save performance to earn his first shutout of the season and help lift the Gens to 3-3.

Rookie breaks the ice

After a scoreless first period, rookie Trigger Two Guns broke through with his first goal as a General. It stood up as the game-winner, with Kael Kozicki and Coen Lane picking up the assists — and their first points of the season.

Ty Barry doubled the lead at 12:52, finishing a play set up by Alexander Devnich and Nathan Sheriffs.

Sheriffs then put the game on ice with an empty-netter off a Nolan Smith assist with 1:16 remaining.

Crowded race in the south

The Gens sit fifth in the south division early in the season, but have played the fewest games.

The defending HJHL champion Medicine Hat Cubs lead the division at 6-1, tied in points with the 6-2 Okotoks Bisons while holding a game in hand.

In the north, the Mountain View Colts have raced out to a perfect 8-0 start.

Flyers first, then a shot at redemption

The Gens welcome the High River Flyers on Saturday for a 7:15 p.m. puck drop before hitting the road Sunday for a rematch with Medicine Hat.

They’ll have a little unfinished business waiting for them. The Cubs handed Cochrane a 4-1 loss on opening weekend, and the Gens will be looking to return the favour.
